The bar chart only shows the fee math. The reality includes invisible costs: tax compliance in every country where you sell, discovery that simply doesn't exist on tip-jar platforms, local-currency payouts that cut FX losses, and the flexibility to sell any format without opening four separate accounts.

We save you the tax compliance
Platforms with 5% fees are usually NOT Merchant of Record: you register as a taxpayer in every jurisdiction, charge VAT to EU customers, and file returns. In the EU that adds 19-25% in compliance overhead. Publica Now is MoR in the EU and LATAM: you get the net, no paperwork.

Marketplace with discovery, not a tip jar
Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee are tip jars: they don't bring new readers. Your audience has to come from somewhere else. Publica Now is a marketplace with its own discovery — readers find you by browsing the catalog.

Local-currency payouts
Your buyer pays in their local currency — peso, real, euro, dollar — and you get paid in yours. No manual conversions, no offshore accounts. The "cheap" platforms only collect in USD; a LATAM creator loses 1-3% extra on conversion plus another spread at the bank.

Substack supports newsletters only. Ko-fi and BMC are tip jars with standalone digital products. KDP is ebook only. Publica Now supports ebook, audio, video, photo, courses, and bundles from a single profile — one storefront for all your work.

How we compute what you keep
This calculator applies each platform's public fees — commission, processing fee, and per-transaction flat fee — on top of the monthly gross you enter (price × volume). Net is what hits your account after fees, before personal taxes and before your own costs (design, marketing, tools).
Assumptions
· Everything in USD. If you sell in another currency, processing fees can carry an FX spread we don't account for.
· We assume zero chargebacks, refunds, or tax withholding. In real life this can deduct 0.5%-3% depending on country and payment method.
· VAT / sales tax depends on buyer geography and Merchant of Record. Gumroad acts as MoR (you collect net, they pay VAT). Publica Now is MoR in LATAM and EU.
· We don't include payout fees (international wires can charge USD 10-30 per settlement at some LATAM banks). That applies equally to every platform.
